Indonesia

We are currently on another island called Sulawesi. We flew from Flores to Bali for 1 night, then here.

The valley we are in is called Tana Toraja, witch in the local language (not Indonesian) means land of the hillbillys! The local people have huge funeral ceremonys and sacrifice’s lots of water buffalo! they dress up in these really cool beady outfits and sing  and dance. The houses they build are really amazing too, they have huge curved rooves and ornate wood carvings. There are quite a few tourists here. There is also amazing plants and animals: as many dragonflys as there is flys in Australia, at least triple the amount of butterflys and millions of frogs! Some are smaller than than the fingernail of my littlest finger, and some bigger than my hand!There are lots of Cacao trees and Cofee bean trees too.

Because there are mainly French tourists around here the local kidds you meet say ” halo,  bon-bon?” (whitch is “halo, lolly?” in  French) so then you give them a little  tofee thing and they go mad and shout: DUA, DUA!!!! withch is Indonesian for  “TWO, TWO!!!” its cute. Yesterday was natinal independence day for Indonesia. There was lots of marching in the street and people celebrating!

Indonesia

We  have been  in Flores for the past 12 days . On the first we went to an island called Rincha ( 1 of the only 2 islands in the world were the Komodo dragon exists) . We saw about 10 of the dragons they where quite scary, but very lazy! We then made our way up to Bajawa were we went on a tour and saw how they grow cacao bean coffee bean and vanilla bean! It is a very mountainous place.Yesterday we climbed a mountain called Kelimutu.Up the top were 3 different colored lakes, one was bright aqua! The other 2 were brown and dark black , in the rainy season they can also be red! Tomorrow we fly back to Bali then to Sulawesi.

Indonesia

We  arrived in Bali and went to our hotel and chilled out for a day. It was hard adjusting to the weather (it was raining when we left Australia) every day so far I have worn a T-shirt and shorts and still I have been hot. On day 2 my cousin  and aunty arrived.

After staying in Bali for a few days we went by plane to an island called Lombok then by boat to a tiny little island called Gili Air (ay-ere) it’s only 1.5 km long and 1 wide and there is no cars and only 800 people (not including tourists). We went on a snorkeling tour around  the other two mini islands we stopped on an even smaller island than Gili Air for lunch. There was a turtle sancuary there and you could pay the equivaent of 10$ to free a baby turle into the ocean, so we did and we named him Yipes, he was sooooo cute and we got to hold him and pat him then watch him swim away!!! Also on the snorkeling tour we saw fully grown turtle swimming around deep down in the sea, we were alowed to pat it if we could hold our breath long enough to reach the bottom. After our stay on Gili Air we all went back to Lombok for 2 days after that we said bye to  our cousin and his mum.

In the past 3 days we have benn staying at a nice little hotel while dad climbed Mt. Rinjani  (Indonesia’s 2nd highest mountain, 3,726m)

School production

At school this year all the 5 and 6 students from our school did a school production. The production we did was called “Circus Splendida”. It was about a circus, they have the opportunity to go on a world tour if they win the sponsorship. The ringmasters assistant and some of the performers where really mean to the clowns and they thought they would’nt win because of them. All the acts where great and I was  Lola the disapearing lady, I was also in three other acts such as the acrobats and the opening parade. In the end after the crowd goes home the sponsorship judge comes over to all the performers and anounces that their circus is going on the world tour and the clowns where actually the heros of the circus!

We  performed it Last week  at the town theatre. It was heaps of fun!!!

Copyright

We recently did a test about what copyright is and how to use it. Mrs.C asked us to write down what we think students should know about copyright law.

here’s what I think:

I think copyright is an important law, from my understanding it protects thr right of artists writing stories, writing and singing songs, drawing pictures, taking photo’s and more. Some of these people choose to share their work with the public, but some put copyrigt on their work so that the public can not use it unless they put the information in diferent words and give credit to the person who did the hard work.

I think all students should learn about this if it applies to them otherwise whats the point?

The Little People

Adventure 1 : The Swing

after the chores where finished Leola gave everyone the signal to meet outside the house on the mantel shelf at midnight. Leola had 10 brotheres and sisters they would all be there exept little Georgio who could’nt walk or talk at would be fast asleep at midnight. There where 4 bedrooms in the cozy little house inside the wall of a rather large house owned by Mr and Mrs Sphinx. They had 2 sons and a daughter.

Leola slept in bedroom 3 and at 5 minutes to midnight she had everyone up and ready. they went out onto the mantel shelf and waited for the rest. Sylvia, Mokasha and Seamus where also in bedroom 3. A minute later Romlo and the two little twins arrived, Henry and Hazel, they where from bedroom 1. “So what are we out here for? Another rade of the cookie jar?” asked Romolo quietly. Leola leaned close and whispered ” I have been wanting to swing on that stainglass light shade ever since we moved from behind that bookshelf”. Romolo looked shocked but excited. After an annoyingly long time of wainting on the mantel shelf in their dressing gowns bedroom 2 turned up, Rifkin, Alfio and Pippa. For a minute they all sat enjoying the veiw of the kitchen. Then Leola started to explain. Everone was excited about the idea and they all started to climb to the top of the mantel shelf. When they reached the top they all started to climb one by one along the spiderwebs to the beautiful stainglass light shade.

Alfio and Seamus climbed to the top where the cord met the roof. They started swinging it they climbed back down and keep it swinging whith the others on the shade. It was amazing fun and they all held onto the cord so as not to fall off.

 Each time they swung it  it stopped closer and closer to the clock. Mokasha tried to point out the fact that they might hit the clock but no one was listening. abou 10 minutes later the light shade just hit the glass on the old grandfather clock with a “tink”. “Everyone listen, we have to jump back onto the spiderwebs when we swing close to them ok? One two three”. Rifkin often had very fourtunate lifesaving ideas like this. Luckily they all jumped onto the spiderwebs and quickly ran back up to the top of the mantel so that the spiderwebs wouldnt snap with thr weight of them all. They got back to the mantel just in time to see the light shade smash against the grandfather clock! It was all broken, the light shade, the light buld and the glass on the grandfather clock. The kitchen was a mess of broken glass! ” them humans’ll realize” said Hazel as if she was letting us in on an amazing fact. “Your not wrong Hazel ” said Romolo encouragingly.                         ”Ofcourse I’m not wrong” she replied indignantly. ” I know… I’ve got it” shouted Alfio and immediately clambered down the mantel onto the bench then into the cupboard. A while later he strugled down with a tin of sardines. “come on down everyone” he said now on the floor. They all went dow a nd when they got ther he asked them to help him open the tin. He then went over to the door climbed up it and poened it. A minute later there was a loud “MEOW” it was Tiddles the family cat. Tiddles was black and white with great big luminous yellow, green eyes. She started on the sardines hungrily. Alfio then went over and shut the door. “come on everyone it’s off to bed for us!!!”

Alfio’s plan worked: Tiddle got the blame. She was punished surverly. The humans got a new light shade that was almost as pretty and The Little people escaped from being dicovered yet again.
